Plan Your Best Egg Hunt Ever!
If you are planning an Easter egg hunt at a church, in a neighborhood, or for a community, then read our 5 quick tips below to make your activity fun for all!
Age Matters
It is a great idea to separate children by age. This ensures the little ones do not get "run over" in all the excitement of the egg hunt!
Depending on your area to hunt, you may wish to have children hunting for eggs at a different times, or you may divide your hunting area by age and let all children search for their eggs at the same time in sectioned off locations.
We suggestion dividing children into 4 Groups:
Toddlers (1 - 2 year olds), Preschoolers (3 - 4 year olds), K - 2nd grade, and 3rd - 5th grade.
Note: Be sure to have larger "toddler eggs" that are filled with toddler-friendly treats such as goldfish, animal crackers, packaged cereal, or toddler fruit snacks. See example image below!
Note: Plastic Toddler Eggs are designed for the egg hunt with adult supervision at all times. After the child has collected the eggs an adult may remove the treats and keep the eggs for next year's hunt.
Set Boundaries
Some children get so excited searching for Easter eggs they may wander into areas that are not so safe - grass that is too tall, behind buildings, and other areas parents would prefer them not to be.
Be sure to have well-defined areas for searching. Tell your older kids before the hunt so they can stay within the boundaries! It is also wise to have volunteers on the perimeter of your hunting areas just to make sure everyone is staying within the area set by your team.
A few different ways to mark off your hunting areas include colorful pennant banners or hanging flags, plastic play cones or yard signs so your little hunters know where to stop hunting.
We find that Flag Pennant Banners are one the easiest way to mark Large areas outside - they set up in minutes and can be saved for next year, too!
Have Treats for All
Of course this seems like an easy task, but with so many food allergies and sensitivities to all types of foods, having candy in all of the eggs can be frustrating for parents with children who have peanut, tree nut, egg, milk, and wheat allergies. In addition, there are health concerns with giving out so much sugar to children.
So.... we have seen many options for toy-filled Easter eggs, but we saw some pretty crazy things being put in eggs - army men, mini combs just to name a few. But after reading reviews, we have wondered if purchasing eggs with toys inside was a good idea to start with. Most of the folks mentioned looking in each egg to see what small items had been added to their eggs before allowing the kids hunt for them!! So that is about the same amount of time as stuffing the eggs in the first place :)
So, here at Carnival Savers, we think if you are opening the eggs to check to see what toy was added, why not have an Egg Stuffing Party and choose your own toys?
For an Easter Stuffing Party, you provide your own plastic eggs, small Easter toys (we sell a fantastic discounted set of Egg Stuffers set we think you will agree is the best deal in town), and candy. Have volunteers stuff the eggs so that you know for a fact what was put inside of each egg!
Consider adding toys to 1/3 or more of your eggs as alternative treats for kids! (The kid's dentists will be glad, too!)
Very important to note: the toys we added to our Easter Egg Stuffers Bulk Toys Set are obvious "toys" and would not be confused with candy. Some small toys like sticky hands on a string are wrapped in plastic and could be mistaken for candy so if you are looking for small toys to put into eggs be sure they do not resemble candy. (See our image above that shows some of our toys in our bulk set. We included spin tops, mini rubber ducks, fuzzy chicks, bunny necklaces, flying frogs, mini springs etc.)
Safety note: as a reminder, small toys (the kind that will fit into regular plastic eggs) are NOT safe for toddlers BUT we do have a brand new category with toddler safe toys! They may not fit in toddler eggs, but you could add a slip of paper to some eggs that said "Spike Ball" and have parents bring the slip of paper to a "toy station" to exchange the slip of paper for the spike ball!
Add Games for Fun
While the kids are waiting for their turn to hunt for eggs, it's a great idea to have a few outdoor or carnival-style games available.

Be sure to ask volunteers to help with each game. You may add consolation or top prizes, as well!
Add Other Activities!
Of course, the life-sized Easter Bunny is always a hit for pictures, but you could also choose to have a face painting station, too!
Tip: To save time and money on face painting, why not purchase spring-themed temporary tattoos and have volunteers add decorations to children's faces and the backs of their hands?
